The man Frank magazine used to call the Puffster has finally become an inflatable version of himself, at least for a little while.
The Canadian Taxpayers Federation unveiled a giant Mike Duffy balloon Thursday as part of its campaign against the Senate, meant to represent "the hot air" in the upper chamber of Parliament.
The inflatable Duffy holds a briefcase bursting with money in one hand, while the other is outstretched asking taxpayers for more — a jab at the senator's dubious expense claims and the subsequent scandal involving a $90,000 cheque from the prime minister's chief of staff.
The CTF says it has shifted its position on the Senate from "elect or abolish" to outright calling for a national referendum to decide whether to keep the scandal-plagued red chamber.
"Senate reform has largely been a failure," CTF Federal Director Gregory Thomas said in a statement. "It's time to let Canadians decide whether they even think the Senate is worth keeping anymore."
The three-storey inflatable Duffy, which itself cost about $5,000, is the official mascot of the campaign. The photo below gives you a real sense of how big this thing is.
