Toronto flood: Snake on a GO Train
More than 70 firefighters were on the scene of a four-alarm fire in the city's east end Saturday morning that engulfed an apartment building and caused it to partially collapse.
Two firefighters were sent to hospital – one as a precaution for heat exhaustion and another potentially had broken ribs, according to Toronto Fire Capt. Mike Strapko.
All of the building's 11 residents were also evacuated and accounted for.
At around 5 a.m., Toronto Fire was called to a three-alarm blaze at an apartment building over a supermarket near Broadview Ave. and Gerrard St., according to Toronto Fire.
Once on scene, the first arriving crews found the third and second floor windows on the north side of the building engulfed in flames.
At around 6:30 a.m., a part of the building's roof and North wall collapsed and the fire was upgraded to a four alarm blaze.
According to Capt. Strapko the fire department is concerned that a good portion of the West wall may collapse as the building is structurally unsound.
The Fire Marshal has been contacted.
Broadview Ave. at Gerrard St. has been closed in both directions.
The 506 Carlton is diverting both ways via Coxwell Ave., Queen St., Victoria St., Dundas St., Bay Ave. and the 504 King and 505 Dundas are diverting both ways via Coxwell Ave., Queen St., Victoria St., Dundas St. and Bay St.
