Police say a father was teaching his seven-year-old daughter to ride a bicycle on a quiet street in Barrie, Ont., when they were both struck by a suspected impaired driver this weekend.
At about 12:40 p.m. on Saturday, Barrie police say they received a report about a vehicle "driving erratically" in the area near Tiffin Street and Ferndale Drive, just west of Highway 400.
Police say they obtained a description of the driver and the vehicle. Officers were sent out to search for it.
But 20 minutes after police were first told about the driver, another call came in about a father and daughter who had been struck on Goodwin Drive, on the other side of the highway.
Police say the collision "destroyed" the young girl's bicycle and left both the father and daughter with non-life threatening injuries.
The vehicle involved in that collision matched the description of the vehicle that police had been looking for.
A 23-year-old Barrie woman was arrested at the scene. She has been charged with dangerous driving and impaired operation of a motor vehicle causing bodily harm.
