B.C.'s Independent Investigations Officer says it is deploying investigators to Kamloops because the alleged suspect in the Wednesday morning shooting of an RCMP officer "sustained serious injury."
The IIO sent out the new information in a tweet Wednesday night.
Kamloops, B.C., RCMP announced Wednesday afternoon it had arrested a 36-year-old man in the shooting of RCMP Cpl. Jean Rene Michaud.
The IIO is responsible for looking into police-involved incidents resulting in death or serious harm. It has provided no further information.

At a news conference Wednesday afternoon, Kamloops RCMP Supt. Brad Mueller said the arrest of a single suspect was made "without incident" by the RCMP's Emergency Response Team in the Batchelor Heights area of Kamloops around 3:30 PT.
Mueller said police are still searching for evidence, and that residents who have been evacuated from their homes will be notified when they can return.
Michaud shot during traffic stop
Michaud, a 13-year veteran of the force, was shot and critically wounded during a traffic stop. He is 40-years-old and has a wife and two young children.
"The events are a sobering reminder of the dangers that police officers face every day while they are serving and protecting their respective communities, and I can't tell you the impact that an incident [like this] has on our policing community," Mueller said.

He would not definitively rule out other suspects.
"We're confident we've arrested one suspect and our information leads us to believe we have a suspect in custody involved in the incident," he said. "If new information comes to light, we'll bring that forward and take the necessary steps."
A massive police manhunt using roadblocks, helicopters and police dogs took place in the neighbourhood after the shooting.
Mueller said the wounded officer has been in surgery and is in critical but stable condition at Royal Inland Hospital with his family at his side.
The incident began when the uniformed officer, who was driving a marked cruiser, stopped a vehicle around 2:45 a.m. PT Wednesday at Batchelor Drive and North River Drive.
Mueller said Michaud was wearing a bullet-proof vest and driving a marked police cruiser as he approached a vehicle as part of an ongoing investigation.
"I can say that our officer was fired upon as he approached the suspect vehicle and the backup officer who was also in attendance returned fire towards that vehicle," he said.
Awoken by gunfire
Dennis Maruschy, who lives a block and a half from the shooting scene, said he was awakened by the sound of gunfire.
"It sounded like one guy emptying a clip — pop, pop, pop, pop," Maruschy said. "It sounded like someone emptying a clip in a semi-automatic."

Kamloops Mayor Peter Milobar said he was shocked to hear the news.
"I guess you always hope that you live in a community where something like this wouldn't happen," he said.
"I think that the RCMP are all very well aware of the risk they are assuming and the fact that they're still willing to put themselves out there for us on a day-in and day-out basis is beyond commendable."
Mueller said there are a lot of solemn faces at the RCMP detachment.
"People who don't wear the uniform and don't put their lives in danger every day don't have a true understanding of what you go through in those types of situations," he said.
