Lucknow: After Union HRD Minister Smriti Irani discovered a hidden camera in Fabindia showroom in Goa, the police in Uttar Pradesh are on their toes to ensure that no such incidence takes place in the state governed by CM Akhilesh Yadav.
The UP Police are scouring shopping malls in the state to find spy cameras if any hidden in the showrooms, reports said.
The move comes after CM Akhilesh Yadav ordered the police to ensure that no camera should be installed in Malls and shops which violates individual's privacy.
The Chief Minister had stated that strict action should be taken against the station in-charge concerned in incidents of hidden camera or video recording in changing or trial rooms in malls, showrooms and shops.
He said that such incidents were a blot on the society, which must be checked at all costs.
"After checking at prominent malls in the city yesterday, though nothing objectionable was found; notices have been served to 45 showrooms to change location of cameras," a senior police official told the PTI.
Of the 45 showrooms served notices, 10 each are in Fun, Saharaganj and Phoenix, 12 in Wave and three in SRS, he said.
They have been asked to change the location of CCTV cameras mostly pointing towards trial room, police added.
The increased vigilance about the cameras in the showrooms comes after the Union HRD Minister Smriti Irani, who was on holiday tour to Goa with Zubin Irani, noticed a CCTV camera pointing towards the trial room while she was inside a Fabinside showroom.
Four employees of the fashion boutique chain's outlet in Goa were arrested for allegedly setting up the camera overlooking the store's changing room, however they were later granted bail.
Police have already sealed the shop and is inspecting the showroom. The CCTV camera was installed on a wall, against a foot-high ventilation gap on the side of the trial room cubicle.
Goa Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar, who is in Bengaluru for the BJP National Executive meet, said stringent action will be taken against the guilty persons.
Meanwhile, Fabindia which had expressed shock and concern at the "allegation" today said that some images being circulated were fabricated lies.
