GOP role model to follow
Regarding "Odd politics as Christie, Obama unite" (Page A4, Thursday), it took a natural disaster to cause it, but an honest GOP hero has emerged in the ample person of New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie.
Shedding the party hard line, and giving credit where due, he thanked and praised President Obama for his assistance to New Jersey dealing with the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy.
When prompted by Fox News, obviously shocked at his remarks, for comment about Romney's potential visit to the stricken area, he flatly told them that taking care of his duty to his state trumped any concern over presidential politics. Such staunch honesty and personal integrity seems to be an increasingly rare trait this election season.
If I lived in New Jersey, I'd vote for this man, regardless of party affiliation.

No advanced planning
Regarding "Planned Parenthood ouster delayed" (Page A1, Thursday), so Gov. Perry claims that if Planned Parenthood tries to legally prevent him from denying funding for the care they provide, it will hurt women's health care?
The governor's idea of good health care for women seems to be unplanned pregnancies leading to back-alley abortions, undiagnosed cancer that costs taxpayers millions of dollars for surgery and follow-up care, and delayed treatment for infections that could have been treated cheaply if they'd been caught in time.
If he really meant to provide a substitute for all that Planned Parenthood does in preventive care, he'd have had a plan in place, including funding.

Not buying twisted logic
Regarding "Romney is more likely to win bipartisan reform" (Page B9, Wednesday), David Brooks argues in favor of Mitt Romney because Romney is more of a flexible flip-flopper than Obama. His point seems to be that we should vote for Romney because he has such weak convictions that he can stand on any side of an issue. As a result, he will be able to compromise with Congress and get things done.
This is the most ridiculous argument I have heard so far in support of a candidate: Vote for the person with the least integrity and weakest character. Sorry, that is not a good reason.

No envy in this party
Lisa Falkenberg, in her column "Solid red status puts us on political sidelines," missed an opportunity to mention another possibility for Democrats in Texas.
It is probably true that whether a Democrat votes or does not vote for the national party ticket will make no difference in Texas. However, there is an alternative for the Democrat who may be disappointed in the choices presented by the two major parties, and that is to vote for Jill Klein of the Green Party.
The Green Party is for the interests of the middle class and the poor and against the big money that dominates the present political processes.
