All's quiet on moving day - Albany Times Union

Augusta, Ga.

With one notable exception, the Masters leaderboard for Sunday is a who's who of players who have been almost but not quite good enough to win at Augusta National.

Co-leader Brandt Snedeker (–7) was third in 2008. Adam Scott (–6) and Jason Day (–5) tied for second in 2011. Matt Kuchar (–4) was third last year.

Only co-leader Angel Cabrera (–7), the 2007 U.S. Open and 2009 Masters winner from Argentina, has had any major success.

"I don't think it's a big advantage that I've won before," Cabrera said through an interpreter. "It's more about patience."

That was painfully evident during the third round. It was moving day at the Masters, but apparently the vans don't do Saturday pickup.

"It was a very quiet day out there," Snedeker said. "I didn't hear a lot of roars."

The only commotion from the third round, which ended with Snedeker and Cabrera (209) ahead of Australians Scott (210), Day (211) and Marc Leishman (211), came in the morning.

Masters officials assessed Tiger Woods a two-stroke penalty for a rules violation during his round Friday but didn't send him home.

"It started off different," Woods said of his Saturday, "but I'm right there in the ballgame. I'm four back with a great shot to win this championship."

Woods, who was kept eligible by a 2011 rules change allowing tournament committees to penalize without disqualification, may be needed to inject some life into Sunday's final round.

Day, the second-round leader, opened with 12 straight pars, then imploded with three-putt bogeys on the final two holes.

Snedeker, who started two shots behind Day, also parred the first dozen, but he added birdies at 13, 15 and 16.

He was second heading into Sunday five years ago but shot a final-round 77.

"I had no clue what I was doing in 2008," Snedeker said. "I had no game plan, no idea of when to be aggressive, when not to be aggressive, how to play this golf course the way you're supposed to play it."

Scott, Day and Leishman may want to change nationalities. No Aussie ever has won a Masters.

"It's just a fact," Scott said. "You can't not deal with that. We've got another great chance. We had a couple of us had a look at it a couple years ago, and three of us right there knocking on the door. There's no better time to ever have to deal with that question again than if you go out and play good (Sunday)."

At least they're in contention. That's more than can be said for several big names, including defending champion Bubba Watson (218) and three-time champion Phil Mickelson (224).

"It is a beautiful day here, and you cannot get a more majestic day here at the Masters," Mickelson said. "I just played terrible."
