Xbox Live Outage Brings Pause to Double-XP Weekend - Geek Smash

It's Saturday! It may be sunny outside, but who cares? It's time to kick back with a cold drink, prop the feet up, and settle in with your controller. Let's turn on the TV and boot up the Xbox, except … IT'S DOWN!!!!!

That's precisely what happened when the Xbox Live network went down this afternoon. The ill timing put it smack in the middle of another "Call of Duty: Black Ops 2″ double XP weekend. This weekend celebrates the upcoming launch of the new Black Ops 2 add-on DLC, Uprising, which will be released early next week.

As people do in the modern age, hundreds of angry tweeters rushed to the internet to voice their unhappiness. "XBL" and "Xbox Live" are still trending worldwide. Search "Xbox Live" and you'll find tweets, ranging from hacking rumors to blatant profanity, streaming on a constant basis.  Forums all over the web are also displaying outrage and displeasure at the Xbox Live outage.

Even the tweet-elite got in on the action.

According to Twitter, some players are getting back online but the majority of the network remains in the dark.

Xbox's only official statement came in the form of a tweet from @XboxSupport: "LIVE service alert affecting sign-in http://xbx.lv/r0tXNK . Apologies, we may not be able to reply to all outage-related tweets today! ^EM"

This outage comes at a particularly interesting time, due to the impending next-gen release of the new, fully online console and the controversy surrounding former Microsoft Studios creative director Adam Orth's infamous tweet, "Deal with it," in response to critics of the always-online system.

No word yet from Xbox or Activision on whether time or XP will be compensated for the outage.
