More than 1,300 residents of Wabush, a small mining town in western Labrador, were allowed to return home Sunday after an evacuation order was lifted.
Residents were ordered from their homes Friday as forest fires rage nearby.
The fires have been burning outside Wabush and Labrador City for about 10 days, and the evacuation order was issued because officials were concerned about air quality.
In a message posted on the city's website Friday night, Mayor Ron Barron warned that residents should prepare to leave their property and report to the Art and Cultural Centre in Labrador City where the Red Cross and emergency services would assist them.
Recent rainfall helped ease fire conditions.
