RICHMOND (NEWS1130) – Good news if you or someone you know had plans to fly in or out of Vancouver this long weekend.
A strike involving some 300 workers at the Vancouver International Airport has been averted, as the two sides reached a deal just a couple of hours ahead of a midnight strike deadline.
Dave Clark with the Public Service Alliance of Canada says they came to an agreement with the help of a federal mediator.
"Both sides got something acceptable, it's good for the YVR airport authority and it's good for the YVR members. We got a fair deal."
YVR's Anne Murray says she's happy a settlement has been reached.
"I thank everybody for their patience over the last couple of days, we know it's been a bit of a nerve-racking time for travelers in particular."
There are no details yet on the deal, but the main points of contention were concessions the airport wanted to make, particularly around wages and procedures for contracting out work.
The deal still has to be ratified, but the airport and union assures passengers there will not be a strike.
