A 14-month-old baby girl in Chilliwack has died, and police say that a man is in custody as part of the investigation into her death.
Sgt. Jennifer Pound with the Lower Mainland's Integrated Homicide Investigation Team says the girl appeared to be in medical distress just after 10 p.m. PT Friday night at a home in the Promontory area.
The baby girl was taken to hospital, but could not be revived and was pronounced dead shortly after 11 p.m. PT.
Pound said that foul play is suspected, but an autopsy will have to be conducted in order to determine the cause of the girl's death. Pound said the parents of the girl, an only child, are distraught.
Pound said these kinds of cases are emotionally difficult for everyone involved.

"Whenever you see a victim that really doesn't have the ability to defend themselves it's always difficult," she said. "It's difficult to see the families go through such a great loss. And it's hard on investigators. They take it home. They have families themselves. But it's motivating them to get to the bottom of it, and I can tell you that we do have one [person] in custody at this point."
Police would not discuss any other details about the man being held, but did say that so far no charges have been laid.
