Naheed Nenshi is celebrating a convincing win for the mayor's chair.
At his election party at the Metropolitan Centre, he told supporters he's eager to get back to work, after a winning with around 74 per cent of the vote.
Although at the time he wasn't sure who his council partners would be, he said he's optimistic they will be able to work together, like back in 2010.
"They had trouble talking to one another and nine of those folks were on the council that I inherited in 2010 and I think we've done a pretty darn good job on working together," Nenshi said. "I hope that we've put those behaviours in place on our council and I think that will happen with all the newly-elected council members as well."
The mayor said once the new council's in place, the first step is to plan a course for the next year, with a focus on flood recovery and planning for the next four-year budget cycle.
"We've got four years to continue to build that even better Calgary, there are a lot of things we need to work on, a lot of things we need to continue from the first term," Nenshi added. "But the first step is to sit with the new council and work out together what our strategies are going to be."
Runner-up Jon Lord said he wanted to bring balance to the election and never really had high expectations.
"I think everybody involved and myself personally can feel very, very successful of what we've managed to accomplish with so little, you know, doing more with a lot less," Lord said.
