Six ice climbers were caught in an avalanche in the Rocky Mountains west of Calgary, Saturday morning.

Thankfully, nobody had to be transported by ambulance to hospital, according to Kananaskis Country Public Safety.

Public Safety Specialist Mike Koppang says the avalanche happened around 10 o'clock, Saturday morning.

"When it did hit them, it hit all six at the same time.  Four of them remained on the surface of the snow, one guy was buried up to around his chest, and one person was further down the slope, and the only part of her that was still sticking out was actually her boot," said Koppang

Some of the climbers suffered just minor injuries.

Koppang says none of the climbers were wearing avalanche transceivers or were carrying shovels or probes, though they did have a beacon to alert authorities they were in trouble.
