MONTREAL - Seven passengers on a Moroccan jet were slightly injured late Monday afternoon in a tarmac fire at Trudeau Airport.

A mobile conveyor belt, used for loading baggage onto planes, burst into flames just before 5 p.m.

All of passengers were hustled off of the Royal Air Maroc Boeing 767.

"They were basically evacuated for safety reasons," said Stephanie Lepage, a spokesman for the Montreal airport authority.

Seven people complained of smoke irritation. Three of them suffered lower-body injuries during the evacuation.

-We''re talking about five women and two men,- emergency official Marc-Andre Gagnon said.

"The five women were transported to the hospital for evaluation, while the two men refused to be transported."

The fire was quickly extinguished by the airport''s fire crew.
