Easter egg hunt tips Kids share what works for them: Run fast, wear the right gear

SOMERSWORTH — A number of the children who turned out for the Easter Egg-Stravaganza Egg Hunt at Millennium Park Friday afternoon had a strategy on how to collect the most candy-filled plastic eggs.

Some of the children based their game plan on advice passed down from a parent.

"My mommy tells me to run as fast as I can," Alyssa Lozey, 6, of Somersworth, said.

Others made sure they wore the right gear to beat out their competition.

"It's these things. They make me go warp speed!" Elisabeth Garland, 5, of Somersworth, said as she looked down at her high-top sneakers.

Alyssa and Elisabeth were among hundreds of children who participated in the egg hunt.

Lindsay Reilly of Somersworth said she decided to bring her two boys, Griffin, 2, and Dominic, 4, to the Egg-Stravaganza because she just moved to the city and a girlfriend told her about it.

"Not a lot of communities have these nice free things that the kids can do," Reilly said.

Joel and Sarah Page, who brought their 4-year-old daughter, Elizabeth, would agree.

"I think Somersworth has a great Recreation Department. They do all kinds of stuff like this. It's awesome," Joel said.

Nick Campion, who is the supervisor of the Recreation Department, said they put out approximately 4,000 pastel-colored eggs for the participants. The eggs could be seen in the bleachers and fields for a distance from the starting line.

Campion said there are three distinct areas for different aged children so everyone has a fair shot.

This year, the eggs didn't stand a chance. The hunt, which started at 4:30 p.m., was finished approximately 10 minutes later. Most of the children had multiple eggs in their basket as they lined up afterward to visit with the Easter Bunny.
