Israel's military says it has downed an unmanned drone along its southern coastline, the first time it has encountered such a weapon since its struggle with Gaza Strip militants began last week.
The military says the drone came from Gaza and that it was shot down on Monday by a Patriot missile near the southern city of Ashdod.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Sunday that the current Israeli operation could last for "a long time" and that the military was prepared "for all possibilities." That includes a wide-ranging Gaza ground operation, which would likely cause heavy casualties in the coastal strip.
But Netanyahu is coming under increasing international pressure to end the operation soon. On Sunday, UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon called for an immediate cease-fire while U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry voiced American "readiness" to help restore calm. Egypt, a key mediator between Israel and Hamas, continued to work behind the scenes to stop the conflict.
Hamas has sent signals it may be ready to consider a cease-fire but appears to be waiting for some tangible military or diplomatic achievement before moving ahead on that front. For his part, Netanyahu wants to show the Israeli public that he has succeeded in significantly degrading Hamas's ability to strike at its Israeli targets before moving ahead diplomatically.
More rockets from Lebanon
Rockets were fired at Israel from southern Lebanon on Monday, drawing retaliatory artillery fire from Israeli forces, Lebanese security officials and the Israeli army said, in the third such rocket attack from Lebanon since Friday.
An Israeli police spokeswoman said there was no immediate word of damage or casualties from the rocket fire. There was no immediate claim of responsibility.
Israeli military spokesman Brigadier-General Motti Almoz linked the Lebanon rockets to the Gaza fighting. "Some on the other side are trying to heat up the border. We were not surprised by it, we prepared for it, we knew the Gaza fighting could affect other areas too," he told Army Radio.

No injuries have been reported as a result of the three incidents across the Lebanese-Israeli frontier since Friday.
The Lebanese national news agency said two rockets had been fired just after midnight in the latest salvo from Lebanon.
The Israeli military said several rockets had been fired from Lebanon at western Galilee, one hitting an open area.
"No injuries reported thus far. The IDF (Israel Defense Forces) immediately responded with artillery fire toward the source of the fire," the military said in a statement.
A witness in Lebanon heard at least five explosions on the Lebanese side of the border, apparently caused by Israeli shelling.
The Lebanese security forces on Friday arrested a man suspected of launching the rockets fired in the first of the three attacks. He was Lebanese and a member of "fundamentalist groups", the report said, without naming the groups.
Since the conflict began, militants have fired nearly 1,000 rockets at Israel, causing some injuries and damage to property, but no fatalities among Israelis.
By contrast, 172 Palestinians have died as a result of Israel's air attacks.
Harper calls rocket fire 'terrorist acts'
Stephen Harper is calling on the international community to step up its condemnation of Hamas for its rocket attacks on Israel.
The prime minister says silence will only embolden Israel's enemies.
Harper issued a statement yesterday saying terrorists are deliberately using residents of Gaza as human shields, placing them in the path of Israeli strikes.
He says recognizing the rocket attacks as unacceptable terrorist acts and showing solidarity with Israel is the best way of stopping the conflict."
