On the three week anniversary of his return from rehab, Mayor Rob Ford scaled a five-metre tall climbing net alongside his son, Dougie, at the unveiling of new playgrounds in political rival Karen Stintz's ward.
The unusual and slightly awkward event unfolded at Woburn Park, in the well-heeled area of Bathurst and Lawrence.
Unusual because the mayor seldom brings his wife and two children to political events. Awkward because Ms. Stintz was the subject of some lewd commentary by Mr. Ford, uttered before rehab while he was inebriated and for which he has apologized.
Ms. Stintz, who was also accompanied by her son and daughter, credited local residents and the parks department for bringing a "vision to life."
She also made a point of noting that city protocol dictates the mayor be invited. In brief remarks, the mayor thanked the local councillor and the community for rejuvenating the park.
"It's where money should be spent and I just wanted to come here and support the local councillor and say thank you very much to the councillor and the community," he said.
