It was an unusually busy Sunday night in Cochrane as the town northwest of Calgary was flooded with police.
RCMP, with help of the Calgary Police Service HAWCKS helicopter, spent about four hours searching for a suspicious person.
The man was first approached by police around 6:00 p.m., when he ran into the woods, eluding officials for a few hours.
Police vehicles with lights flashing converged on an area near a skate park around 6:30 p.m. after the suspect was reportedly spotted in the vicinity.
At around 9:00 p.m., police gathered outside a home on Quigley Drive with officers conversing with a person inside the home via loud speaker.
660′s Ian Campbell, one of many gathered outside the green and beige home, heard a female officer say over the loudspeaker "come out with your hands up. Come out the front door, this is the police".
At about 10:00 p.m., @RCMPAlberta tweeted: "The situation in #Cochrane has ended peacefully. We would like to thank the public for their assistance."
Cochrane Mayor Ivan Brooker tweeted that a suspect had been arrested without incident after Mounties surrounded a home, and that residents could "sleep at ease."
In a written statement, Staff Sergeant Roger Waidson, Detachment Commander, Cochrane RCMP said "This is the best possible outcome for everyone involved," and " I am sure the situation was very frightening for the citizens of Cochrane. I want to thank them for their assistance and cooperation throughout the incident."
More details are expected to be release by RCMP on Monday.
