A 23-year-old mother who was arrested Friday after her four-year-old son was found wandering naked along an Etobicoke street has been released on $2,000 bail.
The woman, who cannot be identified due to a court-ordered publication ban, appeared in court at Old City Hall Saturday morning after being charged with abandoning a child under 10.
Police say at around 1:30 p.m. Friday, officers received a call about a child found wandering without any clothes on in the area of Lake Shore Boulevard and Twelfth Street.
Police say a resident in the neighbourhood heard a child crying and when they looked out their window, they spotted the boy. The neighbour, police say, rushed out to the street to grab him and when the parents could not be located, the neighbour called police.
The boy was not injured during the ordeal but was taken to St. Joseph's Health Centre as a precaution.
Police say the Children's Aid Society of Toronto is involved in the case.
The incident occurred just one day after the death of three-year-old Elijah Marsh, who wandered away from a North York apartment building into frigid temperatures early Thursday morning.
