EDMONTON -- RCMP in Jasper, Alta., are investigating a Greyhound bus crash that sent 20 people to hospital just before 6 a.m. on Monday.
"It looks as though there may have been a mechanical failure on the bus which caused the bus not to stop and went directly through the stop sign," said Cpl. Sharon Franks, a media relations officer with Alberta's RCMP.
It appears the bus left the left side of the road before landing in the south ditch at an intersection on Highway 16 in Jasper. No other vehicles were involved in the crash.
A spokesperson for Greyhound confirmed the bus was en route to Edmonton from Prince George, B.C. on schedule 5046.
"It seems like there may have been some sort of mechanical error with the bus, and it basically just drove off the road," Franks said.
