OTTAWA - A suspect charged in connection with a triple homicide in Ottawa appears in court today.
Ian Bush was charged on Friday in the 2007 slayings of retired tax court judge Alban Garon, his wife Raymonde and their neighbour, Marie-Claire Beniskos, all in their 70s.
The 59-year-old suspect is also facing charges in another case that garnered national attention in December.
Bush is accused in the home invasion robbery and attack on 101-year-old Ernest Cote, a Second World War veteran of the D-Day landings.
A judge ruled Friday that Bush, who recently underwent psychiatric assessment, is fit to stand trial in the Cote case.
Police say if it weren't for the attack on Cote, they might never have arrested a suspect in the homicides.
Bush's lawyer, Geraldine Castle-Trudel, is asking for an inquiry into how the media was tipped to information that linked her client to the homicides before charges were laid.
She refused to speak to reporters after Friday's court appearance.
