AAP rift widens: Mayank Gandhi hits out against sacking of Yadav, Bhushan - Hindustan Times

Senior Aam Aadmi Party leader Mayank Gandhi on Thursday publicly slammed the disciplinary action against founders Yogendra Yadav and Prashant Bhushan saying it was against "overwhelming sentiments" of volunteers.

Gandhi in his blog said he was taken aback when the party's national executive ( NE) resolved to remove Yadav and Bhushan, especially as the two founding members were willing to leave.

Gandhi, an AAP national executive member based in Maharashtra, said he was disclosing these details despite a gag order by the party.

"Last night I was told that disciplinary action would be taken against me, if I revealed anything. I would be dishonest to accept the gag order. This is not a revolt, nor is this some publicity ploy. I will not go to the press. There may be some repercussions overt and covert against me. So be it – my first allegiance is to the higher truth," he wrote.

Gandhi also wrote that Arvind Kejriwal conveyed on February 26 that he would not stay the party chief if these two members were part of the AAP's political affairs committee.

"At the national executive meeting, Yogendra said that he understood that Arvind did not want them in PAC, as it was difficult to him to work together. He and Prashant would be happy to stay out of PAC, but they should not be singled out," Gandhi writes.

According to Gandhi, Yadav put forward two formulas: The PAC be reconstituted and Yadav and Bhushan would not contest. The second formula, Gandhi writes, was the PAC remains unchanged but the two leaders will not attend its meetings.

"The meeting broke for some time and Manish and others conferred with the Delhi team of Ashish Khetan, Asutosh, Dilip Pandey and others. After reassembling, Manish proposed a resolution that YY and PB be removed from the PAC and it was seconded by Sanjay Singh," Gandhi says in his blog.

The blog post also says: "During the Delhi campaign, Prashant Bhushan had threatened multiple times that he will hold press conference against the party, because of his concerns on candidate selection. Some of us were successful in somehow or other to stave off the threat till the elections"

Gandhi abstained during voting because the intention behind the resolution was not acceptable. The score line was close: 11 votes to 8.

Kejriwal did not attend the national executive meet but he was at the Delhi secretariat till 5 pm. On Tuesday he said he was "deeply hurt and pained" by the wrangling within the party.

Yogendra Yadav , meanwhile, refused to comment on Gandhi's comments saying he remained a disciplined worker of the party.

"Our party is built by volunteers. No leader can ever get away with any wrongdoing," he told reporters in Delhi.
